Sea of Thieves: A Pirate’s Life Launches Today!

More than three years into our grand pirate odyssey Sea of Thieves, we’re still pulling out surprises. And this one is something truly special, as the worlds of Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean and Sea of Thieves come together to create an epic original adventure – Sea of Thieves: A Pirate’s Life!

Arriving as part of our free Season Three update today, June 22nd, this match made in buccaneering heaven has come about through collaboration between Rare, Xbox and Disney, bridging two of the world’s biggest pirate franchises for the ultimate crossover.

Sea of Thieves: A Pirate’s Life will see players rescue and ally themselves with Captain Jack Sparrow and his crew, heading out on a quest in which the stakes couldn’t be higher. The pirate way of life and the Sea of Thieves itself are under threat from Jack’s old enemy, the notorious Davy Jones. You’ll follow this cinematic story campaign through five new Tall Tales, Sea of Thieves’ spin on narrative-driven in-game adventures, all of which can be tackled either by yourself or with your own pirate crew in tow.

Jack will join you as you sail the Sea of Thieves and visit unforgettable locations from Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean universe – expect huge set-piece battles, devious puzzles, secrets, rewards and some fine quips as Jack roams around your ship, rifling through the food barrels and messing about with your map table.

You’ll also run into terrifying new enemies that pop up all around the Sea of Thieves, not just in the five new Tall Tales. Fast-moving Phantoms will disorientate you with their speed, shrieking Sirens will swarm up from the depths and hulking Ocean Crawlers will try to get onto your ship and misbehave during a perfectly innocent Voyage. As if dealing with other pirates and all manner of crotchety skeletons wasn’t stressful enough.

While long-term Rare fans will remember Rare’s work with Disney in the ’90s that resulted in sparky kart racers like Mickey’s Speedway USA, this revitalised collaboration is a huge milestone for us as a studio and for Sea of Thieves as a whole. It’s also something that the Sea of Thieves team have been ridiculously excited to show the world for some time now, so this is a big day.

Sea of Thieves: A Pirate’s Life is the cornerstone of our Season Three update, available to download now on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Windows 10, Steam and Xbox Game Pass. Whether you’re a veteran sailor or a fresh face embarking on your maiden voyage, it’s worth flinging your fancy feathered hat into the ring for this adventure – especially considering that like all Sea of Thieves’ previous content updates, it won’t cost you a single Doubloon to download.
