Diversity & Inclusion at Rare
We can’t make memorable games without looking after the good folks that make them, and that means making Rare feel safe for everyone from all walks of life, while also recognising that belonging can mean different things to different people.
At Rare we act on a strategy for Diversity and Inclusion, which keeps the conversation on the table and makes us more intentional with a long-term focus that influences our culture for the better.
Everyone’s Core Priority
We ask everyone who joins us to help create a safe and inclusive place to create games. That’s why we encourage each employee to make a personal commitment to diversity and inclusion, specific to them and their corner of Rare, that evolves and changes with them. This way, team members can understand their own personal impact on our culture and how they can influence it for the better.
"Rare is full of creative and passionate people working on unique games they're excited to make, which ensures fresh surprises every day! Plus cake. Lots of cake."James Bowden - Social Media Lead
Recognising the everyday acts of inclusion
We know our teams do a lot to care about one another, and that’s why we choose to celebrate all the little acts of kindness that go on at Rare every day that can make a big difference to someone’s journey with us. We introduced the Diversity & Inclusion recognition, a set of awards nominated by those across Rare, to recognise when they see a colleague going that extra mile for their teammates.
Communities at Rare
Rare has several communities that help support and care for one another, as well as act on the issues that matter to them. Women of Xbox UK is made up of women across the Xbox network in the UK. You can check out the podcast series ‘Women of Xbox UK podcast’ to hear from some of the incredible creators shaping the future of gaming. Our Pride community is a safe space and looks to increase the inclusion, belonging and representation of those in the LGBTQIA+ community.
Part of a global mission
As part of the Xbox Game Studios network, we are working as part of a worldwide commitment to make gaming welcoming to everyone – from striving to create safe communities in our games to looking after the team so they can continue to build those brilliant gaming experiences.
Working with our people
We understand that each person has their own approach to getting the work done, whether you succeed best from home, on the go or in our studio. At Rare, we support flexibility as our fundamental way of working – from your core hours to the location you’re most successful.
