1/2/10: January in Twittertown

Still going! You bet your be-hind! Here, all you persistent non-followers, is what you missed during the first leg of 2010 in the world of Rare on Twitter, where we even discussed Perfect Dark XBLA a bit.

Naturally, one of the first orders of business on our return from the Xmas break was to bang on about the lingering snow, which led to a flurry of wintry photos taken in and around the Rare grounds (like this, this, this and this – and here's a bonus shot of the main entrance). Meanwhile, news filtered through that Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts had been added to the catalogue of Xbox 360 Games on Demand, and shortly after that joined the Platinum Hits range as well. Nice.

But you lot were salivating for PD XBLA updates, so in the run-up to the official PR campaign we went ahead and offered the odd tease from our own lunchtime PD practice sessions. Fly-by-wire rocket disasters, overzealous GuardSims, crossbow bolts in unsavoury places – oh, the larks. And it won't be too long now before you're all at it.

January listage and awards: we turned up at 44 and 29 in ONM's 50 Greatest Nintendo Moments, with PD and BFD in IGN's Best Games of 2000 and 2001, and at 42 and 29 in Gamebrit's Games of the Decade, amongst others. Meanwhile Kotaku and Giant Bomb spearheaded a wave of fresh support for Nuts & Bolts. Banjo found himself moved to tears and a quiet "guh-huh" of contentment.

Other random subjects discussed: the best possible Rare/non-Rare crossovers (following this story on CVG) and best uses for a telescopic ladder (with actual prizes on offer), the age-old question of who turned Conker bad, Edge's day of spontaneous Killer Instinct quotes, the bonkers Donkey Kong monster truck and the logistics of a science-bending forum claim that the first two Banjo games are "both twice as better" than N&B. And now it's February. Onwards and upwards!
