1/3/10: Twitterlicious February

Follow Rare on Twitter! We'll keep doing the monthly round-up until you do! In February: Perfect Dark at X10, Rare on magazine covers, PD 'teasing' controversy, All-Stars Racing retail release...

Event of the month was X10 in San Francisco, finally quenching the holy rage of impatient PD acolytes with a trailer, price point and release date (and even a Carrington Institute Premium Theme following later). Just in time too, as our attempts to maintain interest in the game by tweeting about our daily gameplay sessions were starting to be branded smug and "insaulting". Yes, insaulting.

For those less interested in capping conspiracists and alien warmongers there was a demo for Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing early in the month, allowing punters to take Banjo and Sonic for a spin before the full game launch a couple of weeks later. This also accounted for one of our two February magazine covers as Banjo and Kazooie stared wildly out from one of the 12 GamesMaster variants, while Sabreman's appearance on the front of Retro Gamer was backed up by a big old-school Ultimate feature. Perfect Dark XBLA didn't get a cover, but it did get a four-page preview/interview combo in Edge. That'll do.

February listage included appearances in IGN's Great Games With Silly Names (guess which game) and ZippyGamers' Top Video Games of 2008, plus slots for Diddy and Dixie in Games Radar's 14 best videogame couples and various other past marvels in NES commercials from around the world.

Other subjects discussed or brought up once then quickly forgotten: overheard Perfect Dark trash talk, the demise of Live support for original Xbox games including Conker, defending Britain's beaches following a random BioWare post about sharks, a brief but intense calendar-off and the persistent reappearance of #uksnow, #officewindow, haiku film reviews and pictures of cake. Coming in March: the 1000 tweet milestone and Perfect Dark XBLA, possibly not in that order of anticipation.
